Experienced Book Copy Editor Wanted

Experienced Book Copy Editor Wanted – 67,000-Word Leadership Memoir

I'm seeking an experienced, detail-oriented copy editor for my completed 67,000-word nonfiction manuscript, *Born to Fly, Trained to Lead: Reflections on Leadership, Responsibility, and Human Systems*.

The book draws on nearly three decades of experience as a Royal Air Force officer, operational aviator, and senior leader, combining personal experiences with practical insights into leadership, resilience, emotional intelligence, and organizational culture.

The manuscript has undergone three rounds of revision and is now ready for professional copy editing ahead of publication.

**Scope of Work**

- Comprehensive copy edit for grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, clarity, and consistency.

- Improve sentence structure, readability, and flow without compromising my authentic voice or conversational writing style.

- Identify awkward phrasing, unnecessary repetition, and passages that feel overly polished, formulaic, or AI-generated.

- Apply US English spelling and publishing conventions while retaining appropriate British military terminology and authentic RAF references.

- Ensure consistency in terminology, capitalization, formatting, and style throughout.

- Deliver the edited manuscript in Microsoft Word using Track Changes, with editorial comments where appropriate.

**Ideal Candidate**

- A native-level English speaker with demonstrable experience editing published nonfiction books.

- Strong background in memoir, leadership, business, or military nonfiction.

- Excellent judgment in preserving an author's individual voice rather than rewriting it.

- Familiarity with both British and American English conventions.

- Able to provide relevant examples of previous work and client references.

**Project Details**

- Manuscript length: Approximately 67,000 words.

- Genre: Narrative nonfiction / Leadership / Personal memoir.

- Editing stage: Copy editing only (not developmental editing or final proofreading).

- Contract: Fixed price, open to competitive proposals.

- Deliverable: Fully copy-edited Word manuscript with tracked changes.

**To Apply**

Please provide a brief overview of your relevant experience, examples of comparable books you've edited, your proposed fixed price, and estimated turnaround time.

Shortlisted candidates may be invited to complete a paid sample edit to assess editorial approach and compatibility.

I'm looking for an editor who will sharpen the writing while ensuring the finished book still sounds unmistakably like me.
