Registered Nurse and Shift Leader (Night Duty)

Introduction

Livewell Bryanston, a specialised dementia care facility, is seeking a Registered Nurse and  Shift Leader to lead and manage our night shift team while ensuring the delivery of safe, compassionate and high-quality care to our residents.

Duties & Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take overall responsibility for the management and coordination of the night shift.
  • Directly supervise and manage the Enrolled Nurse, Healthcare Assistants and Carers working on the night shift.
  • Allocate duties and ensure carers are appropriately deployed according to resident needs and operational requirements.
  • Address staff non-compliance, misconduct and failure to perform assigned duties, including issuing appropriate warnings in accordance with Livewell's Disciplinary Code and Procedure.
  • Conduct regular rounds to ensure residents are safe, appropriately cared for and that required checks and observations are completed.
  • Ensure carers remain awake, alert and actively engaged in resident care throughout the shift.
  • Provide guidance, support and direction to carers and address performance or conduct concerns appropriately.
  • Provide professional nursing care and clinical oversight to residents.
  • Monitor residents' health and promptly identify, manage and escalate changes in clinical condition.
  • Administer medication safely and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, falls and other resident-care concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, health and safety, medication and clinical procedures.
  • Maintain accurate shift records and ensure all relevant matters are documented and communicated.
  • Provide a comprehensive handover to the incoming shift.
  • Liaise with management, doctors and other healthcare professionals where required.
  • Promote a person-centred approach to dementia care, ensuring residents are treated with dignity, compassion and respect.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Registered Nurse Qualification with a valid SANC registration.

Minimum 10 years’ nursing experience

Previous supervisory or shift-leadership experience.

Experience managing or supervising care staff will be advantageous.

Experience working with older persons or residents living with dementia will be advantageous.

Strong clinical judgement, leadership and communication skills.

Ability to work independently, manage a team and remain calm under pressure.

Computer literacy and good administrative skills.

Package & Remuneration

Basic Salary = R32 370,35

Night Shift Allowance = R1 942,23
