Remote Senior Accountant, Consolidations

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

We are the Consolidations & Intercompany team within Accounting & Reporting. We consolidate Airbnb's financial results across its global legal entities and manage the intercompany activity that connects them, so the books stay accurate, compliant with US GAAP, and closed on time. You will work across Finance, partnering with Treasury, Tax, and Finance Systems on funding, transfer pricing, and process optimization.

The Difference You Will Make:

As Senior Accountant, Consolidations, you will support the day-to-day and key intercompany and consolidations accounting activities, particularly during month-end close, where success means hitting each business day milestone. You will serve as a resource on intercompany topics across the wider Finance organization, including support for internal and external audit requests. You will challenge how things are done today and carry better ways of working through to implementation, in our processes and in the ones we share with cross-functional partners.

A Typical Day:

  • Own your assigned close areas from start to finish, preparing and posting monthly intercompany and consolidation journal entries and reconciliations by the close milestone dates, including global funding and settlements, ad hoc cash transfers, recharges, and eliminations like intercompany profit.

  • Prepare and post journal entries for foreign currency transactions, redenominations, and translation adjustments.

  • Work with Treasury on cash pool and intercompany funding accounting, including settlements with FX, accrued and capitalized interest, and reconciliations.

  • Work with Treasury, Tax, and other Controlling teams to clear intercompany imbalances and close blockers, raising risks early with a proposed fix, and serve as a resource on intercompany topics such as consolidation and eliminations (ASC 810), foreign currency, and capital transactions.

  • Keep documentation, workpapers, and SOPs current so the work is repeatable and audit-ready, and respond to internal, external, and statutory audit requests.

  • Cut manual work out of the close. Start with the entries and reconciliations within our team, then take on the processes we share with Tax, Treasury, and other partners, to shorten the close and reduce control risk.

  • Core working hours: 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Pacific Time (11:30 AM to 8:30 PM Eastern Time)

  • Additional flexibility required during month-end close

Your Expertise:

  • BS/BA in Accounting and a CPA or Chartered Accountant.

  • 4+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year in month-end close.

  • Experience automating accounting or close work, including using AI tools to drive efficiency gains, and advanced Excel for analyzing large data sets.

  • Experience improving controls and reconciliation processes that keep working as volume and complexity increase.

  • Experience owning an assigned close area or workstream end to end with minimal oversight, and a record of spotting problems early and proposing fixes that go beyond the minimum.

  • Experience learning a new accounting area or system quickly and applying it in a live close, working with partners across Finance to resolve issues, and communicating clearly in English, in writing and verbally.

  • Preferred: public accounting experience; direct intercompany accounting experience, especially capital transactions and FX accounting under US GAAP (ASC 830); SQL or another database query language; experience with a large-scale ERP.
